Hurricane Irma Food Distribution Underway Around Miami Area
Miami-Dade County schools have partnered with Feeding South Florida Food Bank to distribute 30,000 MREs on Thursday.

MIAMI, FL — Miami-Dade Schools chief Alberto M. Carvalho will be joined by board members and representatives of the Feeding South Florida Food Bank on Thursday starting at 11:30 a.m. to distribute 30,000 Meals-Ready-To-Eat at five different schools around the Miami area. The effort is aimed at helping people who have been affected by Hurricane Irma. Many people have been unable to work since the storm hit and still don't have electricity.
"In the wake of Hurricane Irma, many in our community are struggling to meet basic needs," according to school officials. "M-DCPS, in collaboration with Feeding South Florida Food Bank, will distribute 2,000 to 3,000 meals-ready-to-eat (MRE’s) at each site, while supplies last."
