Former Yankee great Derek Jeter and former presidential hopeful Jeb Bush are said to be courting team owner Jeffrey Loria. The asking price for the team is reportedly as high as $1.6 billion.

In February, Forbes magazine reported that Marlins owner Loria had reached a "handshake" agreement to sell the team for $1.6 billion.

ESPN later cited multiple sources with knowledge of the negotiations in reporting that Ivanka Trump's father--in-law, Charles Kushner, was part of a potential purchase group. That deal apparently fell apart with still more reports that the Trump administration was considering Loria for an ambassadorship to France.
