The event commemorates the arrival of the three wise men after the birth of Christ. It is the day that children traditionally receive gifts in a number of Latin American countries.

In Spanish, the holiday is known as El Día de Los Tres Reyes Magos.

City Mayor Tomas Regalado helped distribute more than 5,000 toys to area children on Friday at Marlins Park in honor of Three Kings Day.
