MIAMI, FL — A yoga student at a free class in Legion Park was doing the “corpse pose” when he was hit in the face by a falling iguana earlier this month, the Miami New Times reported.

"I didn't see it coming. It felt like a sandbag hit me in the face," the victim, who only wanted to be identified as Michael, told the news outlet. "The first thing that went through my head was it must have been a coconut. But there were no coconut trees. And then I thought maybe the guy next to me slugged me — but, I mean, we're in a yoga class and it's so calm and peaceful. Why would the guy hit me?"

The Jan. 7 class was livestreamed by instructor Annamargret Sanchez. (Watch the video below.)

At the end of the video, just before the 48-minute mark Sanchez and others attend the class can be seen and heard audibly gasping and laughing at the iguana fall, which happened off screen.

Sanchez quickly becomes concerned and gets up, saying, “Oh no,” as she heads off screen to help Michael.

Paramedics who were already in the park can be seen carrying sunflowers as they respond to the scene.

Sanchez came back to the streaming video a few seconds later to end the class, saying, “I’m gonna take care of somebody that just got an iguana dropped on his face. Alright, I’ll see you next week.”

In a comment she later wrote on the video, she wrote, “There was an iguana fight and one fell out of the tree. Unfortunately, it dropped on our dear Yogi Michael. Thankfully Michael is safe, although he/we were all a little shaken. Thanks to the amazing paramedics that happened to be there buying flowers. They came right over, sunflowers and all. Thank you to the yoginis and yogis that held the space. Love and gratitude.”

Michael returned to yoga the following week.
