Man Stole Toothbrushes Worth More Than $1K In FL Keys: Sheriff

A man stole six electric toothbrushes worth nearly $1,400 from a Florida Keys Walgreens, Monroe County Sheriff's Office said.

FLORIDA KEYS — A man faces charges after stealing six electric toothbrushes worth nearly $1,400 from a Walgreens in the Florida Keys, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Tracy Jay Mofield, 37, of Islamorada was charged with larceny.

The sheriff’s office responded to the Walgreens store on 53rd Street on Monday just before 11 a.m.

Employees and other witnesses told deputies that a man later identified at Mofield walked out of the store with the toothbrushes without paying for them.

He was driving a white Lexus and was found driving the car on U.S. Highway 1 near mile marker 57, the sheriff’s office said. He sped away, but deputies didn’t pursue him.

Mofield’s car was spotted again near mile marker 73, where he pulled over. He admitted to stealing the toothbrushes and threw them off the Long Key Bridge, MCSO said.
