Men Beat Shark With Hammer, Released It Into Water: FL Police
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission is investigating 2 men who bludgeoned a shark with a hammer and released it, police said.
INDIAN HARBOUR BEACH, FL — Authorities are investigating an incident in which two men were seen hitting a shark they caught with a hammer and releasing it back into the water, the Indian Harbour Beach Police Department shared on its Facebook page.
The men were seen catching the shark while shore fishing, bringing it to shore, hitting the fish over the head with a hammer and then releasing it, the department said.
The incident, which happened Tuesday afternoon at Bicentennial Beach Park, is being investigated by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, according to police.

A video of the shark being bludgeoned was caught on the Harbour House Oceanfront surfcam and can be viewed on Fox 35.
It’s believed the fish was a lemon shark, reports said. Lemon sharks are protected in Florida state waters and prohibited from harvest, according to the FWC website.

“We ask everyone to allow FWC to handle this matter and refrain from addressing anyone involved personally,” police said.
