Here are the top five stories today in Miami:
1. Residents at Water Oaks Park in Miami-Dade are petitioning to stop an increase in HOA monthly association fees. Fees are increasing by about 300% and residents say they are being priced out of their homes. The association says a "high number of delinquent owners compounded with the increase cost of living, resulted in this increase."(NBC Miami)
2. Two cases of a new, highly contagious subvariant of the omicron variant have been reported in Miami-Dade County, according to new findings. The subvariant does not appear to be any more dangerous than prior iterations so far. (WSVN)
3. Investors are cheering on Miami for its recent growth as a tech hub, with some saying it could surpass San Francisco. Soma Capita founder Aneel Ranadive and part owner of the Sacramento Kings says young people love Miami and that it could soon be the next Silicon Valley. Other investors have echoed the sentiment. 4. A proposed Miami Beach ordinance would require that landlords give tenants 60 days notice before raising rent by more than 5%. Renters would be able to report violations to Code Compliance if the ordinance becomes the law, which could carry a maximum fine of $500. (Subscription: Miami Herald)
5. Public assistance is sought to help identify the people who robbed an ATM from a Chase bank at 1799 W. Sample Road in Deerfield Beach Tuesday morning, according to an FBI news release. The Broward Sheriff's Office, the South Florida Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force, and the FBI are investigating this case. (Miami Patch)
