Miami-Dade County Sees Nearly 500 New Coronavirus Cases

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL – The Florida Department of Health reported 482 new cases of the coronavirus on Thursday, bringing the cumulative total number of cases in the county to 170,882.

The health department also reported four new coronavirus-related deaths, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus-related deaths to 3,284. The total number of hospitalizations are currently at 7,809, with 41 non-residents hospitalized.

According to the data, the median age for positive cases in the county is 42, with 49 percent of cases in male patients and 51 percent of cases in female patients.

Statewide, the health department reported 709,144 coronavirus cases on Wednesday, with 44,320 resident hospitalizations. To date, there have been 14,444 resident deaths and 175 non-resident deaths, according to the data.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools will begin a staggered reopening on Monday, school officials voted on Tuesday following an emergency school board meeting.

The Miami-Dade School Board voted unanimously Tuesday to authorize the superintendent to reopen schools for students beginning on Monday.
