Officer Injured While Stopping Carjacking In South FL: Miami Police
A carjacking suspect drove into a Miami officer who tried to stop the crime, seriously injuring her, police said.
MIAMI, FL - A Miami police officer was seriously injured Monday afternoon while trying to stop a carjacking, authorities said.
Witnesses flagged down the officer, who was working a detail at the time, to tell her about the crime around 4 p.m., according to a Miami Police Department news release.
She immediately rushed to the scene, where the suspect, driving a maroon Nissan Murano, intentionally drove into the officer, pinning her into a parked vehicle, police said.

The suspect, 49-year-old Andrewin Wardell, attacked a second officer before being apprehended in the area of N.W. 2nd and 3rd avenues on N.W. 12th Street while trying to avoid being taken into custody.
The injured officer was brought to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she is in serious condition, police said.

Wardell has been charged with robbery/carjacking, attempted felony murder/causing injury, battery on a law enforcement officer, leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injuries, fleeing and eluding police, and leaving the scene of a crash.
