Patient Gouged Out Roommate’s Eyes At South FL Hospital: Police

A patient at South FL State Hospital pulled his roommate's eyeballs from their sockets during a fight, Pembroke Pines police said.

PEMBROKE PINES, FL — A patient at South Florida State Hospital gouged out his roommate’s eyes during a Friday afternoon fight, according to a Pembroke Pines Police Department news release.

Reinaldo Bermeosolo, 34, was charged with aggravated battery and taken into custody by police.

Officers responded to the hospital just before 5 p.m. after being called about a physical altercation between Bermeosolo and his roommate. Both are court-ordered to be at the facility, PPPD said.

By the time officers arrived, the victim, who suffered severe injuries, had been brought to another local hospital.

An argument escalated when Bermeosolo punched his roommate, who hasn’t been named, and eventually pulled both of the victim’s eyeballs from his eye sockets, investigators said.

Another patient walking by the room at the time told hospital staff about the fight.
