PepsiCo Employee Shoots Coworker Over Union Dispute: Police

Jimmy Lee Franklin faces attempted first-degree murder charges in the Nov. 20 shooting, police said.

MEDLEY, FL — A PepsiCo employee was arrested Wednesday for shooting his coworker in a dispute over union matters, Medley police said in a news release. Jimmy Lee Franklin faces attempted first-degree murder charges in the Nov. 20 shooting.

Franklin and the victim were coworkers at a PepsiCo bottling plant and warehouse located at 8701 NW 93rd Street in Medley. While working on Nov. 20, they argued over union issues and decided to leave work to fight, police said.

They drove from PepsiCo about a half-mile down the road to property at 8140 NW 93rd Street. Once there, they argued again, and Franklin shot the victim four times before fleeing, police said.

The victim drove back to PepsiCo, where they waited for first responders, who arrived around 7:05 p.m. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue brought the victim, who had multiple gunshot wounds, to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

During their investigation, Medley Police Department detectives found bullet shell casings at the scene of the shooting, and also obtained video surveillance footage from nearby businesses, as well as witness statements.

Franklin turned himself in to the Medley Police Department at 7777 NW 72nd Ave. on Wednesday. He was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder.
