Police Release Sketch of Suspect who Pointed Gun at Infant

The suspect attempted to coerce the infant's mother to perform sexual favors during a carjacking.

MIAMI — Police released a sketch of an alleged carjacker on Thursday night who they say pointed a handgun at a two-month old infant and attempted to coerce the infant's mother to perform sexual favors while she was forced to drive the suspect around in her Lexus.

The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 20 to 30 years of age with a bushy Afro, thin build, between 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, approximately 180 pounds and last seen wearing a white shirt and jeans.

Miami-Dade police Detective Daniel Ferrin said that the attack occurred shortly before 11 a.m. on Wednesday as the 27-year-old mother was attempting to feed her baby inside her Lexus SUV at Acadia Park, located at 5391 NW 195 Drive.

Ferrin said that the suspect got into the gray 2016 vehicle and demanded sexual favors from the woman along with her property.

"The victim refused his demands, at which time the subject pointed the gun at the baby sitting in his car seat," Ferrin explained. "The subject then began to touch her inappropriately on her private areas. As they arrived at NW 171 Street and NW 38 Avenue, the subject allowed the victims to exit. The subject fled in the victim's vehicle, in an unknown direction."

The woman ran to a nearby home while carrying her baby in her arms. It was there that she called 9-1-1.

"Officers responded to the area and immediately began to search for the subject and vehicle," Ferrin said.

The vehicle was later found abandoned by Miami Gardens police at NW 178 Street and NW 33 Court. Moments later, Miami Gardens police detained an individual fitting the suspect's description. The man was questioned by investigators and then released.

Detective Alvaro Zabaleta of the Miami-Dade Police Department told a television news crew that the subject should be considered armed and dangerous.

"If he’s willing to point a gun at a two-month-old baby sitting in a car seat and then try to sexually assault the mom, he’s willing to do anything,” Zabaleta said.
