Police Seek 3 Gunmen After 9 Injured In Hollywood, Florida, Shooting

A 1-year-old was among those injured when gunfire erupted along the Hollywood Oceanfront Broadwalk on Memorial Day.

HOLLYWOOD, FL — Police on Tuesday launched a search for three suspects they believe opened fire on a crowded Florida beachside promenade on Memorial Day, wounding nine people and sending others frantically running for cover, according to authorities and reports.

Hollywood police and the FBI asked for the public's help in identifying possible suspects in the Monday night shooting that injured six adults and three children. In a post on social media, authorities asked for any videos, photographs, or tips that could lead to identifying the shooters.

Two people involved in the altercation that led to the shooting — Morgan Deslouches and Keshawn Stewart, both 18 — have been arrested on firearms charges, police told The Associated Press. Five handguns were recovered after one was reported stolen in the Miami area and another in Texas, they said.

According to an AP report, authorities are searching for three additional suspects.

Police and witnesses said the shooting began around 7 p.m. Monday as a group of people fought in front of a busy stretch of shops on the Hollywood Oceanfront Broadwalk. At least one gun was pulled and shots were fired, police initially said.

Police spokesperson Deanna Bettineschi said four children between the ages of 1 and 17 were hit, along with five adults between 25 and 65.

As of Tuesday afternoon, four children and two adults remained hospitalized, according to a CNN report citing Hollywood Beach police spokesperson Deanna Bettineschi. All were in stable condition, Bettineschi said.

The names of those wounded have not been released.

Hollywood Mayor Josh Levy said he was "deeply saddened and angered" by the shooting.

"People come to enjoy a holiday weekend on the beach with their families and to have people in complete reckless disregard of the safety of the public and to have an altercation with guns in a public setting with thousands of people around them is beyond reckless," he said in a statement posted to social media.

Audio of 911 calls obtained by CNN detail panic and fear as multiple shots were fired near a convenience store, a Ben & Jerry's ice cream store and a Subway sandwich shop.

"Come to Hollywood Beach," one caller said. "Please, on the beach. They are shooting out here."

Another told a dispatcher, "Two people got hit right now. Two people got hit – a lady and another lady got hit."

Deslouches is charged with grand theft of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm and removing serial numbers from a gun. He's being held on $20,000 bail.

Stewart was charged with carrying a concealed firearm and held on $15,000 bail.

Anyone with information about the shooting or possible suspects should call the FBI's tipline at 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov.
