South FL Father Kills 12-Year-Old Daughter, 9-Year-Old Son In Murder-Suicide: Police

MIAMI LAKES, FL — A Miami Lakes father shot and killed his 12-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son before turning the gun on himself.

Alfredo “Freddy” Ramirez III, Miami-Dade police director, tweeted about the murder-suicide late Tuesday night.

“Earlier this evening officers responded to the scene of a shooting where a father senselessly shot and killed his 12-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son before killing himself. My deepest condolences to the family of the victims,” he tweeted.

Humberto Tovar, 41, picked up his children, Valeria Tovar and Matias Tovar, from their mother’s home Tuesday. The couple is divorced, WSVN reported.

The mother was worried when she didn’t hear from her son or daughter, as they had school early the next day. She found their bodies in the 6400 block of Miami Lakes Drive, next to a lake behind the Publix grocery store, the Local 10 News reported.

She was in a home nearby at the time of the shooting, according to reports.

One nearby resident, Magda Pena, ran from her home when she heard the mother screaming for help near her children’s bodies. She watched the mother try to perform CPR on her son and daughter.

“She had pulled the little girl’s body over towards her, like towards the boy and she was trying to do both at the same time,” Pena told WSVN. “She was like, ‘Please, don’t stop. They’re alive. They’re alive,’ but they were already all dead.”
