Speeding Motorcyclist Drove 117 MPH On U.S. 1 In FL Keys: Sheriff
A motorcyclist late for a flight drove 117 mph in a 45-mph zone in the Florida Keys, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said.
FLORIDA KEYS — A motorcyclist was arrested Friday in the Florida Keys and faces charges after reaching speeds of 117 mph in a 45-mph zone on U.S. 1, according to a news release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Martin Quincy, 35, of Trinidad was charged with fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, and possession of marijuana.
The sheriff’s office spotted Quincy, who was heading north on the highway, illegally passing vehicles in the center turn lane at mile marker 10 around 8:30 a.m., the agency said.

He didn’t stop for deputies and his speed fluctuated from 70 mph, but he reached 117 mph near mile marker 17, MCSO said.
A Key West police officer, who was also on U.S. 1, gave deputies a partial license plate number for Quincy’s motorcycle.

He continued to pass vehicles illegally before he stopped near mile marker 31, the sheriff’s office said.
Quincy told deputies he was late for a flight, which is why he was speeding.
