Thanksgiving 2016: Today is the Absolute Worst Time to Leave the Miami Area

Avoid driving around 4 p.m. on Wednesday if you can help it.

MIAMI, FL — If you’ve got Thanksgiving plans that require you to leave your home over the holiday period, you might want to avoid driving around 4 p.m. Wednesday if you can help it.

The day before Thanksgiving will most likely be the worst day to leave, but if you must leave on Wednesday, try to hit the road at 6 a.m., according to an analysis of Internet searches conducted by Google.

As Patch reported earlier, more Miamians are expected to travel over the holiday period this year.

The best day to return from your trip is the day after Thanksgiving, but you will do best to hit the road at 6 a.m. and avoid traveling around 2 p.m., Google found.

If you must return on Saturday, try to leave by 6 a.m. and avoid traveling around 4 p.m. — when traffic is at its worst.

The same advice also goes for local trips to an outlet store, electronics store, buffet restaurant, movie theater, sporting goods store, art gallery, stadium, liquor store — or anywhere else you might travel over the Thanksgiving holiday period and black Friday.

If you are traveling by air, try to get to the airport before noon or leave after 4 p.m. to avoid the worst airport traffic, according to Google.

If you must get to the airport around 4 p.m., delays can double your trip time.
