First responders from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue have been conducting search and rescue operations in the Florida Keys.

MARATHON, FL — First responders from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue have been conducting search and rescue operations in the Florida Keys. The area suffered horrific damage when Hurricane Irma slammed into Cudjoe Key on Sunday morning. The first responders are part of the 35-member Florida Task Force One.

According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, the team's mission is to conduct search and rescue operations. The team operates in a one mile by one mile grid pattern to make sure that every structure has been searched and cleared before moving on. A secondary objective is to identify and report back on humanitarian needs in the search area.
"Each team has paramedics that have the capability of rendering medical aid," according to Erika Benitez of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. "The team has the capability to retrieve any trapped victims that may be located regardless of the type of entrapment."
The team consists of firefighters, paramedics, search canines, engineers, technical rescue specialists and a medical doctor
