What’s Open, Closed On New Year’s Day 2022 In Miami

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL — While New Year's Day is often a day to recover from the previous night's festivities, if you do plan to head out, it's good to know how the holiday may affect the availability of services in Miami-Dade County.

New Year's Day is one of several holidays that usually affect the hours of government offices, libraries, public transportation, garbage pickup and other services in the Miami area.

To help you plan, here's a roundup of what's open and what's closed on New Year's Day in our area:

Miami-Dade County government offices: All offices will be closed Friday.

Transportation and Public Works: On Friday, Metrobus, Metrorail and Metromover will operate on its regular weekday schedule.

After 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Metrorail will have a 30-minute frequency and service will be extended to 2 a.m. on Saturday. The last northbound and southbound trains will depart from the Government Center Station at 2 a.m. Entry to Metrorail stations will not be allowed after 2 a.m.

Metromover service will also be extended until approximately 2 a.m. on Saturday. Parking facilities at Metrorail stations will remain open until 3 a.m. Saturday.

On Saturday, Metrobus will operate on a Sunday schedule, while Metrorail and Metromover will operate on a regular weekend schedule. Administrative offices will be closed Friday, though Special Transportation Services reservations and cancellations can be made by calling 305-871-1111.

Solid Waste Management: Waste and recycling collection services will occur on a normal schedule. All disposal facilities will observe normal operating hours on Friday and Saturday. Administrative offices will be closed Friday.

Miami-Dade Public Libraries: All public libraries will close Friday and Saturday.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools: All public schools, and regional and district offices closed will remain closed through Friday. School sites will reopen and learning will resume Monday.

City of Miami government offices: All city offices and facilities will be closed Friday.

City of Miami Solid Waste Department: There will be regular garbage, recycling or bulky trash pick-up on Friday. The mini dump facility at 1290 NW 20th Street will be open Friday and closed Saturday.
