2 Rescued From Haulover Inlet

The two people were knocked into the water by rough waves around Haulover Baker's Inlet.

BAL HARBOUR, FL — Two people were rescued from Baker's Haulover Inlet on Tuesday when they apparently got knocked into the water from a 35-foot cabin cruiser. First responders said the vessel was jolted by strong waves. No one was injured.

"The two swimmers were near the Haulover Inlet when they were met with rough seas," explained Lt. Felipe Lay of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. " The two passengers were on a 35 foot cabin cruiser when they were overcome by the sudden jolt caused by the strong waves."

The incident occurred around 5 p.m.

Lay said that Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Fireboat 21 participated in the rescue along with Haulover Marine Patrol and Haulover Police.

"Fortunately, no one was in need of additional medical care," Lay added. "MDFR always advises to please have all safety gear checked and on board your vessel, including safety vests for everyone traveling."
