1. Video shows Miami Beach cops rescue woman who was pinned under SUV after crash (local10.com) — Miami Beach police officers lifted a Jeep to rescue a woman who was pinned underneath it after an e-scooter crash near 71st Street and Bay Drive East Monday night. She was taken to Ryder Trauma Center with non-life-threatening injuries, and the Jeep's driver was cited, as the police chief praised officers' quick, coordinated response.
2. Airbnb to help provide emergency shelter in Miami and the Keys (wlrn.org) — If a hurricane, fire, or flood forces you from your Miami Beach home, you can now call 211 to be screened for free temporary housing through Airbnb.org. A new partnership with Jewish Community Services and Volunteer Florida connects displaced residents in Miami‑Dade and the Keys to participating Airbnbs nationwide for 10‑ to 28‑day emergency stays while they secure longer‑term housing.
3. New startup launches 3D-printed living seawalls to fight Florida floods amid changing climate (wsvn.com) — A Miami Beach resident-turned-entrepreneur is tackling coastal flooding with 3D‑printed "living seawalls" designed to mimic mangrove roots and attract marine life. Her startup, Kind Designs, has already installed 16 seawalls across Florida and is part of a broader push, alongside new flood‑absorbing parks, to help South Florida neighborhoods adapt to rising seas and stronger storms.
4. A North Miami resident took on city council. A judge ruled in her favor (miamiherald.com) — Miami Beach residents may feel the loss as the long-running American Black Film Festival departs the city for Los Angeles, with organizers blaming sharply rising local hotel and production costs. The same newsletter also highlights a North Miami court ruling against council members and several broader political and cultural stories affecting South Florida readers.
