1. Calling All Young Musicians for the Miami Beach Youth Music Festival (miamibeachfl.gov) — Young musicians in and around Miami Beach can now apply to perform at the 11th Annual Miami Beach Youth Music Festival, set for March 6, 2027. Local performers 18 and under must submit an online application and audition links by Dec. 11, 2026, with selected acts receiving an honorarium and a chance to play a full-scale festival in their own community.
2. A $30 million pedestrian bridge in South Beach was scrapped. Here's what to know (miamiherald.com) — Miami Beach's long-promised $30 million pedestrian bridge at Fifth Street and Alton Road has been scrapped, and city leaders are challenging the developer's claim that underground utilities make it impossible. Commissioners ordered an independent engineering review and may tighten future development agreements, after residents who bought into the Five Park project said the bridge was a key selling point.
3. People with disabilities enjoy sand and surf during Sabrina Cohen Adaptive Beach Day (wsvn.com) — Miami Beach residents with disabilities have a growing way to enjoy the shoreline through Sabrina Cohen's Adaptive Beach Days near Beach View Park off Collins Avenue. The program offers specialized access to sand and surf and is fundraising for a permanent adaptive recreation center, with upcoming beach days scheduled for Oct. 18 and Nov. 15.
4. Russian Man Sentenced In Florida To 6 Years Over Fake Voter Registrations And Financial Fraud (tampafp.com) — A Miami Beach resident has been sentenced to six years in federal prison for running an identity theft scheme that used fake voter registrations to obtain fraudulent loans and credit cards. Prosecutors say he created synthetic identities, filed over 100 bogus voter registrations in Pinellas County, and then used those identities hundreds of times to secure credit cards and bank loans before a multi-agency investigation shut him down.
5. Democrat Lucia Báez-Geller challenges Republican Florida Rep. Fabián Basabe (local10.com) — Voters in a coastal state House district that includes parts of northeast Miami-Dade will see former Miami Beach Senior High School teacher and ex–school board member Lucia Báez-Geller challenge Republican Rep. Fabián Basabe this November. The race follows a jury finding Basabe liable in a civil case, while Báez-Geller argues residents are ready to move past controversy and focus on stability and representation.
