Miami Beach Man Charged With Abusing Elderly Mother

MIAMI BEACH — A 59-year-old man is spending the long holiday weekend in a Miami-Dade County jail after police said he abused his elderly mother for nearly eight hours earlier this month.

Jerome Yaron Klein of Miami Beach was being held on charges of battery and a related offense at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center stemming from the Dec. 13 incident in Miami Beach.

Miami Beach Detective Juan Sanchez testified at a hearing for Klein this week that the man continuously battered his mother. The incident took place at a cottage where Klein lives on his mother's property.

“He denied her going to the bathroom, water or any food,” the detective told a judge. “He continuously battered her. She has horrific bruises across her chest, her arm, discoloration on the side of her back and lower back as well.”

News reports said that Klein was attempting to force his mother to change her will.

Police said that Klein threatened to kill himself, his mother and their dog as he held her captive.
