Miami Beach Police Arrest Suspected Carjackers
Miami Beach police launched a manhunt when a stolen silver VW Jetta was spotted on the Venetian Causeway during the evening rush hour.

MIAMI BEACH, FL — Miami Beach police arrested three suspected carjackers early Tuesday evening following a two-hour manhunt around DiLido Island. Police said the search was touched off when a silver VW Jetta was spotted on the Venetian Causeway during the evening rush hour. The Jetta was believed to have been stolen in the 300 block of 71 Street around 1:30 p.m.
"Officers located and arrested three subjects from the armed carjacking earlier today," said Ernesto Rodriguez of the Miami Beach Police Department.
A firearm was also recovered, according to Rodriguez, who said that traffic in the area was expected to resume normal operations shortly after 8 p.m.

The arrest followed the release of a photograph of the three suspected carjackers by Miami Beach police.

Miami Beach police received assistance from the Miami-Dade Police Department, Miami Police Department, Miami Beach Fire Department and Florida Highway Patrol.

Rodriguez said that the VW Jetta was initially spotted around 6 p.m. on the Venetian Causeway. "The occupants of the vehicle bailed out and fled near DiLido Island," he said.

Rodriguez added that the carjacking victim was not injured.
