National Mojito Day DIY Recipes
Havana may be the birthplace of the Mojito, but it certainly is alive and well in Florida.

MIAMI BEACH, FL — Havana may be the birthplace of the Mojito, but it certainly is alive and well in Florida. Since Tuesday is National Mojito Day, we thought we'd bring you three recipes to get your home celebration started. Our recipes come from Gili's Beach Club in Sunny Isles, The Getaway in St. Petersburg and AFROHEAD Rum.
Gili’s Beach Club Frozen Coconut Mojito
Makes 4 refreshing cocktails (Sign up for our free Daily Newsletters and Breaking News Alerts for the Miami Beach Patch.)
- 4 ounces Barcardi Superior Rum
- 2 ounce Malibu Rum
- 16 fresh mint leaves with stems removed and more for garnish
- 2 ounces sweet n’ sour mix
- 16 ounces ice
- 12 ounces coconut sorbet
- 4 ounces pineapple juice
- 1/8 teaspoon sea salt
- shaved coconut for garnish

Chill four glasses in the freezer for at least one hour. Choose a Collins glass, margarita or goblet-style glassware.
In a blender, add of the ingredients and blend to a smooth consistency.

Serve immediately in the chilled glasses.
Garnish with mint springs and optional shaved coconut.
You can celebrate the mojito all summer long at Gili’s Beach Club in Sunny Isles at the restaurant's “Chill Out” happy hour, featuring a mojito with $6.25 mojitos (originally $12.50 each). This includes the Frozen Coconut Mojito and the Mojito & Bubbles, a traditional mojito made with Prosecco. In addition, guests enjoy 50 percent savings on the other cocktails, beers, wines and appetizers.

Passion Fruit Mojito
- AFROHEAD Rum Briland 07
- fresh lime juice
- mint
1.5 ounces AFROHEAD Briland 07
.75 ounce fresh lime juice
.75 ounce simple syrup
.75 ounce passion fruit puree
fresh mint sprigs
spritz of club soda
watermelon wedge for garnish
In a cup, place the mint leaf and gently press.
In a mixing tin, muddle watermelon.
Into the mixing tin, pour all ingredients, except club soda and top with crushed ice.
Cover the top and shake vigorously.
Pour into Collins glass and top with club soda.
Garnish with mint and watermelon wedge.

Classic Mojito
- 1.5 oz AFROHEAD Rum Briland 07
- .75 oz fresh lime juice
- mint leaves
In the bottom of a cup, add mint leaf and gently press.
Add rum and fresh lime juice.
Cover and shake.
Pour into Collins glass.
Garnish with mint leaf.
This classic mojito recipe comes from the Getaway in St. Petersburg, Florida.
