National Pet Day Brings Thanks to Miami Beach K-9
Mikey needed a little attention on National Pet Day so Miami Beach police posted his picture on social media.
MIAMI BEACH — City police wanted to do something special for National Pet Day on Tuesday so they posted a photo of Mikey the K-9 on social media. He didn't seem to mind and the good people of Miami Beach were apparently happy to see him get some well deserved attention.
"K-9 Mikey has been moody all day," lamented Miami Beach police in a Twitter post the four-legged officer's photograph in front of a squad car. (Sign up for our free Daily Newsletters and Breaking News Alerts for the Miami Beach Patch.)
Why? They asked. "It's #NationalPet Day and no one had taken his pic!"

Ernesto Rodriguez of the Miami Beach Police Department told Patch that the Mikey is one of 11 K-9s who keep the citizens of this urban resort town safe every day.

"We take great pride in each of our K=9 partners and consider them officers as well," Rodriguez said.

Aside from the photo, Rodriguez said that Miami Beach K-9s get lots of attention.
"Nothing extra special for the dogs today," he acknowledged. "I’m confident our guys show them love every day."
