SOBE Triathlon Hits the Beach on Sunday
Expect traffic detours and closings around the Miami area as 2,500 athletes compete in the event.

MIAMI BEACH — Some 2,500 athletes are expected to compete in the South Beach Triathlon starting Sunday at 6:45 a.m.
Even if you're not entirely sure what the difference is between a triathlon and a decathlon, you may still want to plan for traffic delays and detours ahead of the event.

Here's how traffic will be affected in Miami Beach and the city of Miami:

- Motorists will be able to cross through the route but they will have too wait.
- Street closures begin at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday.
- NE 36th Street will be closed eastbound from NE 2nd Avenue. The adjacent streets south and north of NE 36th Street will be open.
- NE 2nd Avenue will be closed from NE 15th Street to NE 51st Street.
- NE 15th Street will be closed from NE 2nd Avenue to North Bayshore Drive.
- Miami-Dade Transit buses that travel along NE 2nd Avenue will be re-routed. Check with the Miami-Dade Transit Agency for more information.
- Streets will re-open for vehicular traffic at approximately 11 a.m.
If you want to watch the action, here's the route that the event will take:
Bicyclists will travel west on the MacArthur Causeway to the Biscayne Boulevard exit, then head north on North Bayshore Drive to NE 15th Street.
They will continue west on NE 15th Street to NE 2nd Avenue and head north to NE 36th Street. They will go east on NE 36th Street, cross the Julia Tuttle Causeway and continue east into Miami Beach.
Bicyclists will then head west back over the Julia Tuttle Causeway to the Biscayne Boulevard exit at NE 38th Street and continue west to Federal Highway where they will travel north to NE 51st Street. There, they'll make a U-turn and head south on NE 2nd Avenue to NE 15th Street.
They will continue east on NE 15th Street to North Bayshore Drive, where they will head south on North Bayshore Drive onto the I-395 ramp. They'll continue over the MacArthur Causeway and head back into Miami Beach.
