Venetian Causeway Reopens

Repairs finished ahead of schedule.

MIAMI BEACH, FL — The East Bascule Bridge on the Venetian Causeway reopened on Thursday as crews wrapped up work early on the ornate crossing.

The East Bascule Bridge, which has been undergoing repairs, links downtown Miami with Miami Beach and the Venetian Islands.

Constructed in 1927, the Venetian Causeway consists of 12 bridges – 10 fixed and two bascule bridges – spanning the 11 man-made Venetian Islands.

Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) temporarily reopened the bridge to vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians to ease traffic congestion around Art Basel and the holidays.

Route A buses were also expected to resume a regular schedule to 20th Street and Bay Road in Miami Beach via the Venetian Causeway as of the 6 p.m. reopening.

Commuters, however, are advised to confirm Route A availability before traveling on Thursday by calling 305-891-3131 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
