Burglary Suspect Dies In Sheriff's Office Custody

The man died after attempting a break-in at a Port Richey home, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office says.

PORT RICHEY, FL — The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a man following a burglary attempt Friday night.

According to the agency, the man broke into a home at 9226 Dresden Lane late Friday night. He was injured while attempting to break in through a window, suffering multiple cuts. Once inside the home, deputies say, the man got into an altercation with one of the home’s residents.

“Deputies and Fire Rescue responded and attempted to take the suspect into custody, but he continued to fight even as aid was being administered to him for the cuts,” an email from the sheriff’s office said. “The suspect was tased in an effort to subdue him as he was combative and fighting our deputies.”

Deputies handcuffed the man at that point “so he could be further treated for his injuries,” the email said. He, however, lost consciousness, the agency said.

The man, identified as Torrey Lamar Robinson, 35, was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
