Driver in Fatal Hit-and-Run May Have Sold Car

A red BWM convertible was sold to Ben's Auto Salvage Wednesday morning after a fatal crash in Holiday.

The Florida Highway Patrol may have come across a big break in the fatal hit-and-run in Holiday that claimed the life of Gary Alan Hetman.

Troopers say a damaged red BMW convertible was sold Wednesday morning to Ben’s Auto Salvage, 4707 Voorhees Road, in New Port Richey. During their investigation into the crash, Troopers recovered an outside mirror from a red car, believed to be a BMW.

The car is now undergoing forensics testing to see if it is connected to the crash.

The accident in question happened around 1:20 a.m. at U.S. 19 and Mile Stretch Road.

Hetman, 49, of Spring Hill was walking west across U.S. 19 south of Mile Stretch Drive. He crossed into the southbound lanes and into the path of a southbound car.

Hetman suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the car, however, took off.
