Elderly Woman Carjacked at Grocery Store

The 83-year-old woman was loading groceries into her car outside a Port Richey Publix store.

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office is on the hunt for a woman it says carjacked an 83-year-old in a Publix parking lot.

The incident occurred Thursday around 10 a.m. at the 7037 Ridge Road store. Deputies say the woman was putting groceries into her car when the female suspect approached her and asked if she needed help.

The victim, an email from the sheriff’s office said, told the suspect no. The suspect walked away from her victim as another customer approached, but returned after the person passed. She then reached into the victim’s pockets and swiped the car keys, the email said.

The suspect then proceeded to drive off in the victim’s 2003 Cadillac Deville. The suspect was seen picking up a man at the end of the plaza before driving off westbound on Ridge Road.

Deputies describe the suspect as a white female with dark hair. She was wearing a gray T-shirt and pink sweatpants.

The victim was not injured in the exchange, the sheriff’s office noted.
