Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration

The African-American Club of Pasco is pleased to sponsor this celebration that begins at the nearby Union Missionary Baptist Church with an invocation by Rev. Rahn Smart, followed by a song by the church choir.

After a 100-yard to the African-American Club building, the celebration continues with speakers such as New Port Richey Chief of Police James Steffens, Pasco County Schools Superintendent Heather Fiorentino, and motivational speaker Dr. Michael Miller of Tampa.

Enjoy music by the Union Missionary Baptist Church Choir, the newly formed AAC Youth Choir in their debut appearance, the Gulf High School Jazz Band, and renowned composer-singer Bonnie Whitehurst, who plays the harp, the guitar, the dulcimer and other instruments.

The emphasis at this year's celebration is on Rev. King, the clergyman, and excerpts will be read from his controversial and powerful address given at Riverside Church in New York City, exactly a year before his assassination, in which he called on clergy and laity alike to stand up, speak out and seek justice for those suffering war and poverty.
