Karen De Vos portrays Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of “The Yearling.” De Vos’ research took her to the author’s home in Cross Creek several times and to study materials housed in the special collections library at the University of Florida campus in Gainesville.
In the performance, she focuses on Rawlings’s life in Cross Creek from 1933 to 1947; how Rawlings became intrigued with her Cracker neighbors; and why the author chose to portray them in stories, articles, and poems.
Slides made from the Rawlings collection at UF accompany the program. Displays include a book exhibit and other memorabilia.
