Featured Artist: jacabo For the first time presenting his collection of “Dreams on the Way to Tomorrow" -A very personal experience and exhibit.

About the Featured Artist: jacabo was born in Havana, Cuba but immigrated in the early 1950s to the United States, where he later became a citizen in New York at a young age. After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Miami in Florida in the 1970s, he abandoned his dream of becoming a painter for nearly four decades to work in commercial art to support his family. The recent passing of his mother, who had always loved his childhood works and hung a painting of his on her wall until her death, shook jacabo awake. And in 2011, he finally returned to his lifelong dream. Using a wet-on-wet brush stroke technique, his paintings aim to give texture and form to a realm of tangible and intangible states: memories, feelings, dreams. His latest collection, Dreams on the Way to Tomorrow, explores the landscape of dormant emotions internalized from both human and environmental interaction, laden with metaphors of remorse, regret and renewal.

Dreams

 This Collection

came from a desire to

to leave behind my

black and yellow period –

and with it, an end to

my previous collection:

“Lost Memories.”

So what is “Dreams on

the Way to Tomorrow”

for me? This is a

glimpse at dreams — born

from past, present and future

realities and based on

environmental demands in

our lives. Or more simply

stated: I wanted to paint a

snapshot of the tortured and

twisted ideas, beliefs and

desires we relive in our mind.

I wanted to capture not so

much the dream state, but

interpret the stream state

of thought.

It is a mangled, yet

whimsical, portrayal as

seen by the influences of

the mind’s metamorphoses.

If I could get your mind to

reinterpret some of these

images as you view them,

then my work is done.
