Faithful Dog Stays By Owner's Side After Hit-And-Run

The Friday morning crash left a 42-year-old woman dead.

As police in Jacksonville work to unravel the mystery of a 42-year-old woman’s Friday morning death in a Kangaroo gas station parking lot, the pooch she left behind is now safely with family.

The dog, named Paco, made headlines Friday morning after he was discovered waiting by his owner’s side following the fatal accident. It seems when Kelly Black was struck and killed by a truck, Paco stayed put at his owner’s side. The dog was found waiting when emergency personnel arrived on the scene, the Palm Beach Post reported.

The accident happened shortly before 7 a.m. on North Chaffee Road. While police are still trying to put together the pieces, they believe Black and her dog were walking in the parking lot when she was struck by a tractor-trailer and dragged for about 30 yards, News4Jax reported. The truck’s driver, the station noted, did not stop, but it is thought possible the person behind the wheel didn’t know there was a woman caught under the vehicle.
