Florida Man Reenacts 'Tombstone' Scene, Kills Sister

The accident happened last Saturday.

A Florida woman was shot and killed Saturday during her own 40th birthday party as her brother attempted to reenact a scene from the movie “Tombstone.”

Leon County Sheriff’s deputies say Renee Chaires, 39, was shot by her older brother Eric Stayton, 50. Stayton was attempting to reenact the scene from the 1993 movie during which Johnny Ringo, played by Michael Biehn, spins his gun during a dispute with Val Kilmer’s Doc Holliday, the New York Daily News reported.

Stayton, however, dropped his gun, causing it to discharge. The gun fired a single shot, which hit Chaires in the neck. She later died from the injury.

Leon County officials have not charged Stayton in the death, but the Tallahassee Democrat said a report will be filed with the State Attorney’s Office to determine what charges, if any, will be pursued.

Chaires would have turned 40 this week. The party at Stayton’s home was also meant to celebrate her daughter’s 23rd birthday.
