2 in Custody After FWC Officer's Shooting

The officer's boat was stolen after the shooting.

A Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer was shot Friday afternoon in the Panama City area.

According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, the officer was on his boat when the 4:15 p.m. incident occurred. After the shooting, two suspects stole the boat. The vessel was subsequently beached along Beach Drive and Cherry Street.

The sheriff’s office is working with the Panama City Police Department and FWC in investigating the case. The sheriff’s office announced just after 7 p.m. it had two suspects in custody.

The officer, whose identity has not yet been released, is in stable condition at a local hospital, the sheriff’s office said.

Friday’s shooting comes on the heels of fatal shootings of law enforcement officers in Shreveport and Memphis.

On Thursday evening, two Largo residents were accused of opening fire on a Clearwater Police Department substation. No injuries were reported in that incident that also left two nearby homes damaged from gunfire. Both men now face charges in what police say was an attack meant to specifically target them.
