Gator Stops Traffic In Trinity

The critter brought Wednesday morning traffic to a standstill.

TRINITY, FL — A rather sizeable alligator with a strong desire to cross the street created a bit of a Wednesday morning traffic jam in the Trinity area.

The creature’s stroll was caught on video by a motorist tied up in the momentary snarl. Just why this gator crossed the road remains unclear, but the reality is incidents like this one aren’t all that uncommon in the Sunshine State. Alligators have been known to stroll up onto front porches, stalk an occasional McDonald’s drive-thru and even create spectacles on golf courses.

Alligators aren’t alone in their wandering ways either. Last week, an American crocodile took a dip in a Florida homeowner’s pool and just a few days ago two bear cubs helped themselves to a backyard trampoline.

As for those alligators, they tend to create such a stir in the Sunshine State the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has even set up a hotline to field nuisance gator calls. That number is 1-866-FWC-GATOR (866-392-4286). In 2013 alone, the state handled 15,036 nuisance alligator calls, which resulted in the removal of 6,605 creatures.
