Man Cut Off Puppy's Ears to Make Him Look 'Tough'

Police in Central Florida say he turned himself in.

A 34-year-old Williston man’s attempt to make a 3-month-old pit bull puppy look β€œtough” went horribly awry Saturday.

That’s according to Williston Police Chief Dennis Strow who says the man walked into the department around 12:41 p.m. to report what he’d done.

When Shawn Bailey told Williston Police he’d cut his dog’s ears off with a razor, officers decided to head to his home to see what had happened.

β€œUpon the officer’s arrival at the defendant’s home they, discovered that the dog’s ears were nearly completely removed,” Strow said in a media release. The ears, WFTV reported, were found on the kitchen counter.

The puppy was taken to Levy Animal Clinic where veterinarian Dr. Robert Bullock performed emergency surgery to prevent any further suffering by the dog.

While the puppy is now doing well in foster care, Strow reported, Bailey faces a cruelty to animals charge. He was booked into the Levy County Jail following his admission and was later released on $3,000 bond.
