Man Hatches Elaborate Burglary Scheme, Gets Caught

Deputies say he caused more than $1,300 damage only to walk away with $80 in loot.

A 32-year-old New Port Richey man was behind bars Monday after Pasco County deputies say he dreamed up and executed an elaborate plan to break into JJ’s Discount Beverage in Hudson.

What the man didn’t count on, however, was a witness telling deputies about the incident or the fact the store’s surveillance camera was rolling the whole time.

The incident unfolded Sept. 21 around 1:27 a.m. when deputies say a man, whose face was covered by a shirt and hat,Β climbed onto the 13311 U.S. 19 store’s roof and cut an access hole before cutting through the drywall ceiling. The man then lowered himself inside and β€œwent immediately to the coin dozer game,” an arrest reported stated. The surveillance camera captured the man as he tipped the machine over and poured its contents on the floor.

The man, police said, went back out through the access point he cut, getting away with about $80 in quarters, cash and watches. He didn’t take anything else inside the store.

Damage to the roof and ceiling are estimated at $1,000, while the machine suffered about $300 in damage.

A witness told deputies the man spoke to him just before the break-in, saying he was going to β€œhit a lick.” Around 4 a.m., the man met up with the witness again and gave the person two watches, which deputies say came from inside the store.

Justin Don Teixuro was charged in the crime while he was being questioned post Miranda about another case, the report stated. β€œThe defendant spontaneously uttered, β€˜I did JJ’s,’” deputies said.

Teixuro has an extensive criminal history, including a conviction for escape, deputies said. He was being held in the Land O’ Lakes Jail Monday in lieu of $22,650 bond. He faces such charges as burglary, criminal mischief and trespassing.
