LAND O’ LAKES, FL — After celebrating the grand opening of the Moffitt Speros Outpatient Center in Pasco County earlier this month, the Moffitt Cancer Center will start treating patients at the facility on Monday, according to a news release.

The 120,000-square-foot outpatient cancer care facility is the first project completed at Speros, Moffitt’s planned 775-acre innovation hub.

“The opening of the Moffitt Speros Outpatient Center is about access, innovation and hope,” Patrick Hwu, M.D., president and CEO of Moffitt, said. “This facility allows us to deliver the highest level of outpatient cancer care in a setting designed around the needs of patients and families, while advancing our broader vision for Speros as a destination for discovery and lifesaving treatment.”

Located in the heart of the Speros campus, the outpatient center will offer comprehensive cancer services, including screenings, imaging, infusion and specialty clinics.

The building is also home to the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Proton Therapy Center, Tampa Bay’s first proton therapy treatment center, which is expected to open to patients in June.

Proton therapy is the most advanced form of radiation therapy, the news release said. It uses advanced technology to precisely target tumors while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue.

“This opening represents the promise of Speros becoming a place where world-class care, research and innovation converge,” said Josh Carpenter, D.Phil., president of Speros. “The Moffitt Speros Outpatient Center is the front door for patients seeking exceptional care and a tangible example of what this campus was envisioned to achieve for the region and beyond.”

Backed by $600 million in active construction and $1.1 billion in capital investment, Speros is designed to fuel scientific breakthroughs, deliver world-class cancer treatment and create long-term economic growth in Florida.

The campus is projected to create more than 11,000 quality jobs over the next decade.
