Pasco County To Offer Once-A-Week Recycling Services

PASCO COUNTY, FL -- Pasco County is now offering weekly residential curbside recycling. The new, once-per-week schedule will increase recycling tonnage and make participation easier – just toss recyclables into one bin.

Haulers have 90 days to make the transition to weekly recycling.

Since there is no resale market for recycled glass in Florida, and broken glass contaminates the recycling stream, glass will no longer be accepted in the recycling program. Residents should toss glass in the trash bin where it will be sent to Pasco’s Waste-To-Energy facility, leaving less of a carbon footprint than it would in a landfill.

“This increase in service is a reflection of Pasco County’s commitment to future sustainability and to our citizens,” said Solid Waste Director John Power. “Though removing glass may seem counter-intuitive, it increases the overall reuse of collected materials, eases processing and maximizes our positive environmental impact.”

Pasco residents recycle about 8,000 tons a year, while producing 379,000 tons of trash. Additional pick-ups will capitalize on recycling that wasn’t being captured. Pasco County is increasing the allowable price cap haulers can charge for service from $12.44 a month to $16.81a month – the first increase since 2009.
