Pasco Deputies Apprehend Bed-Sharing Burglar

A burglary spree ended Monday when the accused was found in bed with a napping resident.

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL – A man accused of breaking into a home and sharing a bed with the napping resident has been arrested by the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office arrested and charged Russell Albert Smith, 42, of 4700 Blossom Drive, Holiday, on Monday following several break-ins in the Griffin Park area in New Port Richey.

Pasco detectives, deputies and the K-9 were on the scene investigating the burglaries Monday, Nov. 20, when they apprehended Smith.

According to sheriff’s reports, Smith’s burglary spree began when he broke a front door window at 9120 Bourbon St. and entered the home, taking food from the refrigerator as well as fishing poles from a utility shed.

Deputies said he then moved on to 9020 Bourbon St. where the resident saw him breaking into her utility shed and then trying to steal the patio furniture on her porch. When the resident called the sheriff’s office, Smith fled the scene, leaving behind the fishing poles he’d taken from the previous break-in.

Smith reportedly headed next to a home at 9135 Cosimo St. where he stole jewelry and credit cards.

He was arrested shortly before 3 p.m. at 9022 Kiowa Drive where Smith admitted to breaking into the home, drinking beer from the victim’s refrigerator, taking some of the victim’s prescription medication and then laying on the bed next to her while she was taking a nap.

Smith was charged with three counts of breaking into an occupied dwelling and was taken to a medical facility for evaluation.
