Pasco Dispatcher Helps Deliver Baby
The special delivery arrived before a Port Richey couple could make to the hospital.
PORT RICHEY, FL — A Pasco County Emergency Services/911 dispatcher is getting the credit for helping a Port Richey couple deliver a baby so eager to make it into the world it wouldn’t wait for an ambulance to arrive.
The county on Friday released a 911 recording of the call placed by the baby’s father at 6:21 a.m. Tuesday. While call taker Nolan Ristau quickly dispatched Engine 11 and the sheriff’s office to the home to render aid to the family, the “baby was born prior to their arrival,” county spokesman Doug Tobin wrote in an email to media.
On the heavily redacted 911 call, a man tells Ristau that his fiancée has gone into labor and that the baby’s head is visible. Ristau calmly asks the man questions while assuring that assistance is on the way. The expectant father is also noticeably calm on the recording while another child is heard in the background.

Tobin said the family has not agreed to have their names released, nor was information about the baby’s size, weight or sex released. “Our congratulations goes out to the new mother and father,” Tobin did write in the email.
