Pasco EcoFest In The Works

The creators of the Suncoast Arts Fest take on a new project that incorporates art, wildlife and tourism.

A new festival showcasing Pasco County's natural beauty is being tentatively planned for November.

The chief planner of the Pasco EcoFest is Pam Marron, the same woman who has helped make the a success.

"This idea was born out of the desire for Pasco County to be known for its nature coast and the outdoor nature activities that are out there," Marron said. "We brought in the art because it’s the natural additional element that can enhance this."

The EcoFest is planned to span the west coast of Pasco, taking advantage of the beautiful parks and water activities there, Marron said. She hopes to organize bird-watching activities, displays of wildlife art, nature walks and kayaking and boat rides at a discounted price.

She said her team is also working on creating a geocaching activity, a treasure hunting game that uses GPS, usually on a smartphone.

The fees for involvement are still being worked out, and Marron said sponsors and other means of funding are still needed.  Planners are shooting to hold the EcoFest in November, but the idea was just formulated five weeks ago and details have yet to be worked out.

Marron said many individuals in the county have had their hands in the project. She is partnering with the West Pasco Audubon Society, the Pasco Tourist Development Council, and a Quality Inn off U.S. 19 that would host a dinner, guest speakers and art and music.
