Man With Unusual Name Charged in Florida Attempted Rape, Robbery

The crime took place Sunday afternoon in Gainesville.

An Orlando man remains behind bars in Alachua County following a Sunday afternoon incident at a Gainesville ATM.

Gainesville Police say Phuc Kieu, 58, was arrested after a man said he had just finished withdrawing money from an ATM when he walked by a parked Honda Civic. Kieu is said to have jumped out, pulled the man into the car and straddled him, the Panama City News Herald reported. He then tried to take the victim’s clothing off, the paper reported.

The victim was able to fight his way out of the car and then ran to a shopping center that was nearby yelling, “Rapist,” the Gainesville Sun reported.

During the attack, the money the man withdrew turned up missing.

Police say Kieu had been watching pornography on DVD inside the Honda before the attack happened.

Kieu was booked into the Alachua County Jail on sexual assault, robbery and kidnapping charges, according to jail records. He remained behind bars Monday afternoon in lieu of $150,000 bond.
