Pasco Sheriff Says Girl Made Up Story About Attempted Kidnapping

Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a reward of up to $3,000 for information about a man who tried to lure a girl into his vehicle.

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL -- The Pasco County Sheriff says a 10-year-old girl made up a story about an attempted kidnapping.

The girl reported that, on Nov. 26, between 5 and 5:15 p.m., a black man driving a tan, four-door vehicle with no license plat drove up to her at the intersection of Banbury Avenue and Cardy Street in the Moon Lake area of New Port Richey.

Claiming to be friends with the girl's mother, the girl said he tried to lure her into his car.

On further questioning, the 10-year-old admitted to fabricating the entire story including a detailed description of the kidnapper.

The sheriff's office said she made up the story to get attention. No charges will be filed.
