PASCO COUNTY, FL — The Pasco Sheriff's Office's Economic Crimes Unit has responded to several cases of exploitation of the elderly across the county this week.
Suspects contact victims claiming that the victim's grandchild is in jail and the victim must produce large sums of cash to facilitate the grandchild's release or for their legal fees.
Unfortunately, after the suspects have the cash, these claims are ultimately found to be false.

Cases have been reported in Zephyrhills, Wesley Chapel, Land O' Lakes and New Port Richey.
The scammer is reported to be a man driving a red, newer-model Nissan Altima, which does not have a license plate.
