NEW PORT RICHEY, FL — A New Port Richey man who reportedly tried to kidnap a 6-month-old baby girl was caught by Pasco County Sheriff's Office K9 Titan after he fled into some woods.

Kevin Wilson, 24, was arrested Monday, Sept. 17 after the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said he climbed into the second-story window of a home on Castine Street home around 8:45 a.m. and tried to kidnap the baby.

He had been ordered by the court to have no contact with the mother and baby stemming from domestic battery incident in July.

The sheriff's office said the baby's mother initially let him into the house but then changed her mind and called for her uncle who was in the house. At that point, deputies said Wilson grabbed the baby and ran down the stairs and outside with the child, telling the mother, "You'll never see her again."

Deputies said he was clutching the baby so tightly, the mother and uncle feared Wilson was harm the child. The uncle grabbed a gun and pointed it at Wilson, ordering him to release the baby. Wilson eventually gave the baby to her mother and left in his car.

The sheriff's office responded with its aviation unit and a sheriff's K9 dog, and spent several hours tracking Wilson. At about 2 p.m., deputies finally located Wilson in a wooded area behind the McDonald's restaurant at 11367 Ridge Road, prompting officials to lock down the nearby River Ridge middle and high schools as a precaution.

Sgt. Will Ferguson, Titan's handler, recorded Wilson's capture on his body cam. Ferguson can be heard ordering Wilson to stop. When Wilson failed to heed the command, the 2-year-old German shepherd chased him through the woods, eventually forcing him to the ground and clamping his teeth around Wilson's arm to hold him until Ferguson arrived to place Wilson in handcuffs.

Wilson was charged with violating a no-contact order, interference of custody and child neglect.

Titan can look pretty ferocious even when he's only training.
