Woman Accidentally Drives Over, Kills Sister In Port Richey: FHP

An 86-year-old Port Richey woman died after being accidentally run over by her older sister Monday afternoon, Florida Highway Patrol said.

PORT RICHEY, FL — An 87-year-old woman accidentally drove over and killed her sister Monday afternoon in Port Richey, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The driver was dropping off her 86-year-old sister at her Elm Leaf Court home around 4:30 p.m. at the time of the crash.

After being dropped off, the 86-year-old woman walked to her mailbox to check for mail. At the same time, her sister reversed out of the driveway.

Once the driver’s car was out of the driveway, she changed gears and accidentally stepped on the gas pedal, moving forward and hitting her sister who was standing near the mailbox, FHP said.

The driver’s car continued moving forward hitting a tree and a neighbor’s parked SUV.

Her sister died at the scene.
