New Tampa Blockbuster Shuttering Sunday

There are only a couple more days to buy movies and video games at deep-discount prices.
The Blockbuster store in New Tampa will be open through Sunday, Jan. 29. Then, it is shuttering its doors for good.
Located at Bruce B. Downs and Cross Creek boulevards, the movie rental shop has not been renting DVDs for weeks in anticipation of the closing.

An employee, while not permitted to speak on the record, told Patch earlier this month that other stores in the area, including ones in Zephyrhills and Brandon, are not slated to close at this time.
The rental chain that famously encouraged customers to stay in and "make it a Blockbuster night!" was formed in Texas in 1985. At one time they were easily the biggest video rental outfit in the country. But issues including competition from Netflix and Redbox forced the company to file for bankruptcy protection in 2010. It was auctioned off to Dish Network earlier this year for $320 million.
